ROCKRAM®
SYSTEM
The ultimate in
brute steering force for off-road vehicles.
Originally developed for competition
rockcrawlers, the Rock Ram System will improve
the off-road and on-highway handling of any
vehicle running large tires. It works equally
well on weekend
trail riders, hardcore rockcrawlers or the four
wheeler with large tires and a lift kit who
rarely gets off-road but is fighting the wheel
to get into a tight parking spot. The Rock Ram
System is engineered for any vehicle
needing extra
steering force to turn large tires or maneuver
off-road. The Rock Ram System increases your
steering force by 100% or more, yet still
retains excellent handling characteristics for
on-road driving. The Ram cylinder serves
as an added assist
to the gearbox and as a POWERED Steering
Stabilizer, eliminating the need for a
conventional steering stabilizer. The Ram
cylinder uses dynamic hydraulic pressure to
control front-end movement, not just cushion it.
This results in a smoother ride and increased
tire wear.
The Rock Ram
System consists of the competition and trail
proven Super Box, a Rock Ram power steering pump
and the Rock Ram hydraulic ram cylinder.
The gearbox has been ported and modified to
provide the needed increase in fluid flow to
supply both the gearbox and hydraulic ram
cylinder viahydraulic fittings installed in the
Super Box. This box is not to be confused with a
backyard conversion that results in a steering
system that suffers from slow, sluggish
steering. The kit also includes the spherical
rod ends, hose, fittings and hardware to install
the Rock Ram System.
The Rock Ram gearbox
is manufactured with light valving for turning
ease. The gear ratios vary depending on the
vehicle application. In addition to the
tremendous increase in turning force, the Rock
Ram System reduces stress on the steering
gearbox and frame by sharing the load with the
Ram cylinder. The components and modifications
included in the Rock Ram System are purpose
designed to provide pure turning power for
off-road maneuvering and at the same time
stabilizing the front-end while driving on the
pavement.
NEW RAM CYLINDER SIZES
As a part of our ongoing efforts to improve our
products, AGR has increased the tensile strength
of our Rock Ram cylinder shafts by 30%. In
addition, we have increased the shaft diameter
on the 1 3⁄4’ x 8” Rock Ram cylinder to 3⁄4” to
further strengthen our system. The 1 3⁄4” X 8”
X. 3⁄4” Rock Ram cylinder is used on all large
piston gearboxes that use the P-series Rock Ram
pump. The 1 1⁄2” x 8” X 5/8” Rock Ram cylinder
is used on most Jeep CJ, XJ, YJ, ZJ and TJ
applications that use the small piston gearbox
(376xxx and 325xxx kits). This cylinder
and gearbox combination provides excellent
turning force for tires up to 39.5” without
compromising steering speed. The new 1 1⁄2” X 9”
X 5/8” shaft is used on Ford Super Duty trucks
or special applications where more than 8” of
travel is required.
All AGR Rock Ram
cylinders are specifically designed for steering
applications, unlike general purpose
agricultural cylinders which are destined to
fail under sever off-road use. AGR Rock Ram
cylinders are double sealed and come equipped
with wipers designed for extreme off-road use on
a motor vehicle. Run-of-the-mill hydraulic
cylinders are not engineered for high-flow
applications and are not designed for quick
reaction to steering inputs
Welding is required to
mount the Ram cylinder. Heavy-duty tie rods and
components are required for reliable performance
and durability.
